Some drugstores have plastic strips of about 3/8"x 6", 2 or 3 to a pack, and it does a surprisingly thorough job of scraping the tongue clean.  And no, it doesn’t hurt though it helps to have a 30% solution of mouthwash handy to kill the taste of the mucous sliding off the tongue. I suspect the origin of that implement is somewhere in the Orient, using bamboo strips. And the use of a neti pot prior to the tongue cleaning is recommended, of course. Every once in a while you see a samurai movie where the lord is lying sideways with his head on the lap of his wife or mistress who is cleaning his ears. Have yet to see any instance of someone cleaning another person’s tongue, though. Maybe the Byzantine Empire had an Order of the Royal Tongue Immaculators. actually my daughter used to have constant sinus infections, and rinsing her nostrils with warm water and a little salt was the only thing that really stopped it…… it sucked, she couldnt walk straight when they were bad. take care anna
