i was also gonna vote for aloe….LOVE IT….. buy yourself a couple and plant them. (or pot them if you are in one of those horrible cold environments) i have two big plants that keep sproutin up little babies….and they take NO ATTENTION or any sort of a green thumb whatsoever to cultivate…… karuna, i am glad you mentioned that about the emu….i have seen that oil touted left and right lately…..yet another fad? and i kept trying to sift thru the commercial sites and posts to see exactly where this "oil" comes from……no go. so i figured it must be a matter of those cute animals getting killed.  for human "beauty" purposes no less. does anyone have any lowdown info (websites, books, etc) on this whole "emu oil" deal (as far as exactly how they get the oil?) i think this is something people should know before buyin it for their soap or lotions or whatever……. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > This one IS advertising. > and – emu oil is made from "emus"  - the birds themselves. > ….(in case you’re a vego, Trace) > aloe vera straight from the plant …. > k. > The best thing we have found for burns, abrasions and scrapes to prevent > scarring is straight emu oil.  We like to mix it with neem oil to act as > an > antibacterial agent. > Best of Health, > Autumn Blum > Organix Natural Health > http://organix.net

Probably Rod Hull & Emu, which didn’t talk, just attacked everyone who came within reach.   I worked on his TV series for a few years.   He died recently in the UK. I used the aloe combined with comfrey on a friends second degree grease burn.  She was so relieved to have the pain start to go away almost at once.  Within two days it started to heal.  She has no scars to show for the burn.  This was a six inch burn going across her chest so she was very happy to have no scar. What about aloe? I don’t want a scar from it. Also, I have been putting on an antibiotic cream the doctor gave me and covering it with a bandage. It’s 2 days old. The best thing we have found for burns, abrasions and scrapes to prevent scarring is straight emu oil.  We like to mix it with neem oil to act as an antibacterial agent. Best of Health, Autumn Blum Organix Natural Health http://organix.net

whatever you do use- try to monitor carefully for infection. Some oils are bacteriostatic, but other preparations may not be.

K, I agree, the aloe vera straight from the plant is wonderful, and probably absolutely the best way to apply it.  When my children were home, now they’re older and have flown the coop, I use to keep a bottle of aloe that I purchased from the healthfood store, in the fridge.  In the summer, when they didn’t listen to me and caught too much sun, it was a blessing to be able to take the cool aloe and apply it to their sunburned skin.  It would take the stink away immediately and they didn’t blister. I am a potter, and at one time burned my hand on my kiln (talk about a burn, whew!)  Anyway, I took a leaf from my aloe vera plant and used that…..it was really quite wonderful.  I had no blister, which really surprised me, and the healing was fairly rapid, considering the severity of the burn.  You do have to keep applying it though.
